Sarkozy’s Party Loses In Regional Vote – It has not been a good week for the French President, Nicolas Sarkozy. Amid reports that both he and his wife are not partaking in a monogamous relationship, it appears as if Sarkozy’s party is also losing most of their votes in the regional vote. Sarkozy has downplayed the importance of the regional vote, but many experts on the subject say that it is a sign of the tide’s shifting among these reports of infidelity. Last week, his wife, Carla Bruni, spoke to several different magazines about the accusations that have been made. She too, downplayed the coverage of the mainstream media, and said that the two of them were faithful to each other and were not partaking in an extramarital affairs.

Traditionally, the french have votes mostly for the political right. In the regional vote, it appears as if the country is now leaning more towards the left. There are a number of things that could have caused this switch in political orientation. Many believe that the French are looking for a more strong and fair government, and may have opted out of electing members of the government part who have made such a stir in recent weeks.

The regional elections are generally used to gauge how the public feels about their president elect mid term. They come right at the three year mark of Sarkozy’s five year term, and it appears that the public may not be all too happy about the actions that Sarkozy has taken in recent weeks. While Sarkozy and his party continue to downplay the results of the regional vote, many believe that this signifies the end of an era in France, and a dramatic shift in political views that is not often seen in a country that, for the most part has always been considered quite liberal in their views.
